About Dr. Karen Crane

Dr. Karen Crane is a licensed psychologist who earned her Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology at the Florida Institute of Technology. At Florida Tech, she received specialized training in providing educational and psychological evaluations for children, teens, and adults. Dr. Crane has practiced in multiple settings, including college counseling centers, community mental health clinics, and psychiatric hospitals. During her years of practice, Dr. Crane has completed hundreds of comprehensive psychological evaluations and has also helped clients meet their personal and therapeutic goals.

Dr. Crane completed her APA accredited doctoral internship at Carolinas Medical Center where she worked with children, adolescents, and adults with a variety of presenting problems in an outpatient and a psychiatric inpatient setting. Dr. Crane continued her work at Carolinas Medical Center as a staff psychologist and received training in dialectical behavioral therapy to help adults and teens struggling to use coping skills in their daily lives. She provided comprehensive psychological assessment services, including ADHD assessments, testing to better understand emotional and behavioral disorders, as well as intellectual and achievement testing to improve academic functioning. Dr. Crane also provided staff trainings on the treatment of body image and eating disorders.

Dr. Crane has practiced privately in addition to her work at Carolinas Medical Center since 2005. Areas of professional interest include psychological assessment (psycho-educational testing and personality testing); and the treatment of anxiety disorders, relationship issues, women’s mental health, and depression. In her work with clients, Dr. Crane emphasizes the importance of a collaborative relationship in developing and working on treatment goals. Dr. Crane tailors treatment to the needs of the individual to maximize healing and well-being. She utilizes cognitive-behavioral, dialectical-behavioral, and interpersonal techniques.

Dr. Crane is a member of the American Psychological Association, North Carolina Psychological Association, and Mecklenburg Psychological Association.

About Michelle Brown, LPA

Michelle Brown has 15 years experience working in the public schools as a staff School Psychologist. She received her Master’s Degree with Certificate of Advance Study from Appalachian State University in 2000 after completing her year-long internship in the Onslow County Schools.

Michelle moved to the Charlotte area in 2001 and developed her career in the Cabarrus County Schools for over a decade. During that time she specialized in working with high risk Exceptional Children and individualizing supports to ensure a safe environment for students to make progress toward their goals. Michelle collaborated with other school and community professionals to develop Individual Education Plans, Crisis Plans and Social-Emotional Skills Instruction. In particular, Michelle worked with students with behavioral/emotional disabilities and provided consultation/training for staff working with students at risk for suspension. She also participated in the system wide Autism Team to educate staff about the characteristics of Autism and specializing strategies for including students on the spectrum in the regular education setting. Michelle completed comprehensive psycho-educational assessments as well for students with a variety of educational needs to assist with eligibility determination and educational planning.

Michelle has been certified through the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) as a Positive Behavior Support Trainer, Functional Behavior Assessment/Behavior Intervention trainer, and served on the NCDPI Exceptional Children’s Behavior Support Advisory Committee. She is a member of National Association of School Psychologists, a Licensed Psychological Associate, and Health Service Provider through the North Carolina Psychology Board.
